Shots from the Sea of Change conference at the House of Lords, London for the UN Disability Day, with Lord Low.

The sea of Change campaign asks a basic but thought provoking question: How does a blind person cross a road?

The campaign looks into how a blind and partially sighted people cross a road (guide dogs, white stick, etc.) but also looks at the dangers surrounding them and what forms they take.

At the heart of the campaign is the use and layout of 'shared space'.

Councils across the country have tried various ways to slow down traffic in urban areas to reduce the risk to pedestrians. One of those methods is 'shared space', where the traffic mix with pedestrians who are effectively 'in the middle of the road'.
